It is 1916 and the superannuated duo of Holmes and Watson are at it again. Ancient Mycroft has a job for his elderly little brother, and what a job it is, to apprehend a German spy with a deadly germ warfare formula. This Baron von Bug is a nasty a piece of work and soon we are on board a zeppelin which in a matter of pages drops its passengers in mid-Africa where, after a convoluted explanation, repeated once, we meet Lord Tarzan Greystoke. Dr Watson meets Jane! [Censored.]
Also censored is Holmes’s bee dance. (Don’t ask.)
Oh hum, we jump this way and that…and well the result is superficial, trite, sophomoric, insulting, lightweight, and ‘just awful’ wrote one Good Reader in an understatement. Hardly surprising that with these qualities the majority of Good Reads raters liked it.
